About

Roberto Hull is a professional photographer with over ten years of experience behind the lens. He is a member in good standing of the National Press Photographers Association and one of the archival photographers for the Bardavon Opera House in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Specializing in portraiture and classically trained in black and white film photography, he has a deep respect for both the art and technique of his craft. That foundation in film photography means that he is one of a fading breed of photographers who know their way around a dark room and takes pride in being able to offer hand made prints from film negatives, all processed on site in his own studio. Being equally well versed in digital photography and use of Adobe Lightroom makes Roberto a capable and reliable choice for his clients.

Born in 1986 in Santiago, Chile – Roberto was adopted by American parents and grew up between Wisconsin and New York. His father’s love of travel instilled in Roberto a desire to explore and understand the physical world without bias; while his mother’s compassion as a physician granted him a unique empathy for people that he brings to every project. His passion for photography began during his college years studying under Dan McCormack who introduced him to the magic of the dark room. Since then he has been captivated by the work of many amazing photographers including Diane Arbus, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Matt Mahurin, and Eugene Richards – and has had the opportunity to take workshops with inspirational mentors Norman Mauskopf, Kurt Markus, and Jason Langer. He always works to further his education and firmly believes that he can learn and improve his photography every day.

Roberto’s constant desire to understand the people around him pushes him to explore the human element in everything he sees and to connect with every person he photographs – resulting in the creation of truly honest portraits. That empathy combined with a sense of adventure makes him comfortable with diverse projects all over the world, in the studio or out in the field. The respect and warmth shown to his subjects allows him to truly capture each individual’s personality and he always turns each shoot into a fun, relaxed, and creative experience.
